Can You Get a Credit Card With an ITIN?
Yes. Three of the largest issuers in the U.S. — Chase, American Express, and Capital One — accept an ITIN on credit card applications. Every card listed on this page has been obtained using an ITIN. These are not guesses or "likely to work" — they are verified.
Before you apply
If you have no U.S. credit history yet, you cannot go straight to the rewards cards below. Start with a secured card first — see the secured cards section below. After 12 months of on-time payments, your score will typically be in the 680–720 range and you can apply for the cards in this list.
Rewards Cards That Accept ITIN
✅ All verified firsthand
Every card below was obtained using an ITIN. A U.S. address and established credit history are required. Start with the secured cards section if you are just beginning.

American Express Cards

Start Here: Secured Cards for No Credit History
If you just got your ITIN and have no U.S. credit history, you need a secured card first. A secured card requires a cash deposit (usually $200–$500) that becomes your credit limit. Use it for small purchases, pay the full balance every month, and your score will climb within 6 months.
$200 minimum deposit. 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants, 1% everywhere else. No annual fee. Discover automatically reviews your account after 7 months to see if you qualify for an unsecured upgrade. One of the best secured cards available. ITIN accepted.
$49–$200 deposit for a $200 credit limit. No annual fee. Capital One reviews your account after 6 months for a possible unsecured upgrade. ITIN accepted. Good alternative if Discover doesn't work for you.
The one rule that matters
Pay your full balance before the due date every single month. Never carry a balance. This builds your score faster than anything else. Setting up autopay for the full balance removes the risk of ever missing a payment.
How to Apply With an ITIN
When filling out a credit card application online, look for the field labeled "Social Security Number." Most Chase, Amex, and Capital One applications include one of the following:
- An option to select "I have an ITIN instead of an SSN" — click this and enter your ITIN.
- Just entering your ITIN directly in the SSN field — this works for most applications.
- If neither works, visit a branch in person and apply at the counter — the branch application process always allows ITIN.
